Age seems to be just a number for Luka Modric, and nothing more. The Croatian midfielder continues to make his mark in Serie A, doing so with figures that demonstrate his importance within Milan’s setup. Since the Italian league returned to a 20-team format, in the 2005-06 season, no player has provided more assists after reaching (and passing) the age of 40. Modric has already reached four assists by the eighth matchday of the league season, surpassing Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who remains on three.

How important is Modric in Amorim's lineup?
It is not just a matter of statistics. Modric continues to be one of the tactical reference points for Amorim’s Milan, especially when it comes to bringing order to the play, slowing down or increasing the tempo, and finding the right pass in the final third, writes Milan News. The quality with which he approaches every possession remains a valuable asset for a team that, in the most difficult moments, naturally relies on his experience.
At 41, however, managing his physical condition inevitably becomes a fundamental part of the season. Amorim knows this well and will find it difficult to ask him to play every three days without giving him at least some rest.
For Modric, Bologna could be an opportunity for a breather. Then, there's the derby...
In light of this, Luka Modric could be given a rest against Bologna. The aim would be to preserve him for Saturday’s derby against Inter, one of the most important and eagerly anticipated matches of the entire Rossoneri season. Managing Modric means choosing when and how to use him, without giving up his influence in decisive moments. With the derby just around the corner, having the Croatian midfielder fresh and in the best possible condition could make an enormous difference.
The assists record once again confirms his class, but now it is up to Amorim to find the best way to preserve it.
