The AC Milan owner and RedBird founder, Gerry Cardinale, spoke to the microphones of Sky Sport Italia. Here are his words ahead of the derby kickoff:
"It's incredible to see all these people. I couldn't ask for anything better: this is truly the best football has to offer. It will be a great evening."
Yesterday, you had dinner with the club's legends. What did it mean?
"My goal is to bring Milan back to the top and, obviously, to do that, you need content. When I arrived here, I immediately understood how important this was, and obviously, the legends who made Milan what it is are the foundation of this. We want to do more and more things from this point of view, and we also want to create partnerships with the past to move into the future and bring Milan back to where we want it to be."
Amorim was your choice...
"Yes, he is my coach... We have a great relationship. He is doing a tremendous job with the team and the players. He really is a coach, a manager: he is developing the players, and that is what I want. I am happy with the choice I made."
How will you approach the transfer market? Cardinale replied:
"We want to be active for a long time. I want, and will always want, to be active in every transfer window, trying to take advantage of every opportunity that arises. As I have said, and always repeat publicly, when I took ownership of this club in June 2022, I wanted to bring it back to the top of Italian and European football. We are doing our very best. There will be an announcement soon."
What did you think the first time you were told that the stadium would be shared with Inter?
"The new stadium is effectively a partnership between Milan and Inter, and I have the utmost respect for Inter. Having said that, tonight we want to win. As for the stadium, there is a partnership, and for my part, I want to bring the best of the experience I have gained in the United States, including the financial contribution that we will put on the table as Milan, to ensure that this stadium will be the very best. We want to bring the best of our experience in the United States not only to Milan, but also to Serie A, in terms of what it has always been."
