The derby victory put AC Milan back on track in the league, but now they need to do the same in Europe. The Rossoneri are stuck on three points in the Europa League League Phase, while Ferencvaros arrive at San Siro with a perfect record of nine points from nine.
A position in the standings that does not reflect the ambitions of Ruben Amorim's team, who must win to avoid further complicating their path towards the Round of 16. Saturday's victory over Inter could, however, provide the right boost, but they will need to turn that enthusiasm into consistency.
Ferencvaros have been perfect so far
The Hungarians have built their European campaign from the qualifying rounds, eliminating Vojvodina, Twente, Gornik Zabrze and Trabzonspor in that order. In the League Phase, they have so far beaten Celtic, Viktoria Plzen and Torreense, becoming one of the five teams with a perfect record.
Milan, on the other hand, have been far too inconsistent, starting with a disappointing home defeat against Benfica, then securing a convincing win over Salzburg before losing again away to Bournemouth and slipping as low as 24th place. The stated objective is to go all the way in the competition, but to achieve that, they must start changing gear from Thursday onwards.
La Gazzetta dello Sport writes this morning that Ruben Amorim should make several changes for Thursday's match. Lorenzo Torriani will necessarily take his place in goal following Mike Maignan's sending-off in England. In defence, either De Winter or Pavlovic could be rested, with Diawara consequently brought back into his natural role as a centre-back.
In midfield, Jashari is expected to feature, with Terracciano and Comotto candidates to provide some fresh legs alongside the Swiss midfielder. Hutchinson and Cisse are expected to start further forward, with the usual Gonçalo Ramos ready to lead the Rossoneri attack.
