The latest edition of Il Giornale headlines this morning:
"Milan’s other problem: the lack of goals from Ramos."
Among Milan’s question marks is also the issue concerning the performances of Gonçalo Ramos, who has scored just three goals so far. The Portuguese forward has performed below expectations up to this point: "Welcomed with great fanfare, both because of the fee paid to PSG (€75 million) and because of his career statistics as a centre-forward, he is receiving more criticism than positive assessments, particularly regarding the numbers (3 goals, one of which was a penalty), 1 assist, 79% pass completion and 50% of shots on target), which have become the benchmark in modern football.
“The real contradiction lies in his performances for his national team: during the extended international break in September, Ramos was among Portugal’s most prolific players, also benefiting from João Félix’s valuable assists.
“One conclusion can be drawn for now: the Portuguese centre-forward, considered by many to be the first true heir to the last great number nine, Giroud, has failed to live up to expectations. This is because his contribution to linking up play and dropping back into midfield to help his team-mates in possession is recognised, but in doing so, he continues to cover a lot of ground without receiving adequate support inside the penalty area.
“Amorim himself has repeated several times: ‘We need to help Ramos more’, a sign that he is searching for a more rational and concrete attacking formula at the same time,” wrote Franco Ordine in his article for Il Giornale.
