Ruben Amorim, AC Milan's head coach, spoke to the media in a press conference following the win against Genoa (1-2) at the Luigi Ferraris.
What explains this difference in attitude between Europe and the league?
"Rotation is necessary for us. Clearly, Thursday was a bad match for the players we have. I think it is a matter of mentality, and we have to address it. The only way I know is to work, train with the players, explain things, show videos, because there were some things so obvious that I do not need to explain them; I will simply show a few clips from the match and they will understand."
Are you satisfied with the performance? Amorim responded:
"I am satisfied with the progress we are making. We are completely changing the way we play. We have more possession of the ball. We control matches more with the ball. I think we have had some moments during these matches, really good moments with a good culture. I think we are far from the end. I think we lack time in the final third. We control the ball far from the opposition's penalty area. This is also a key point so that Gonçalo Ramos can have clearer chances. It is clearly not Gonçalo's fault. Pulisic is far from the penalty area. Gonçalo is far from the penalty area. All these players play far from the penalty area, so I can say that we are still far from the final product, because we are still working on good progression, but then in the final third we waste a lot of time there with the ball."
How do you judge the refereeing approach, including today's?
"I will not comment on it, because I know that talking about referees is not something that could help my team. You have eyes, you have the channels, you have watched the match. You can judge for yourselves."
Amorim, Milan never lose two matches in a row...
"What I feel is that, when we are competitive, we are difficult to beat, and now we are directing the match towards our style. We push to have control with the ball. When we are not able to be competitive, we are completely all over the place. It is a big difference, but it is something we have to work on. But I repeat, the team's progress, the way we are playing, is completely different from the beginning of the season, and I am satisfied with that. We should have more points... I am clearly not happy with the match in Europe, not only because of the results, but because of the performance. Results can happen, but the performances are far from what we want. However, I think that in the future we will be a better team."
