AC Milan management tried hard to sign Brest's 23-year-old star Romain Faivre to strengthen the attacking midfield area.
In fact, the player was really close to making the switch and join the Rossoneri. The negotiations were going at a good pace and an agreement was close to bring the player to Italy on Monday. However, at the end, the French club removed the player from the transfer list and decided not to sell.
According to Calciomercato.com, the first contact for Faivre dates back to May. The first offer was valued at around 10 million euros and it was submitted 10 days ago. Brest, though, wanted 15 million euros fee fixed and refused to give any discounts.
Milan owners, Elliott, gave the ok to raise the offer later. Maldini and Massara presented 12 million euros on the table plus bonuses and they were sure to be able to strike an agreement.
But it was not enough because Brest had changed their mind: Faivre would have left for only 15 million euros guaranteed, with favours to the player who did refuse to travel with the team for the away fixture in Strasbourg.
That is when Milan decided to shift the attention elsewhere, specifically to Crotone's star Junior Messias. The source adds, however, that Milan could return to try for Faivre once again in January's mercato session.
