Chelsea former boss, Frank Lampard, who coached Fikayo Tomori at the Stamford Bridge but also when they were both at Derby County, has opened about the 23-year-old English centre-back who is now performing quite well for AC Milan.
"It was a difficult story", said Lampard to Coral, "because we had too many centre-halves in the end in the second year at Chelsea and I really wanted to help him but I’m not sure he really understood that."
Lampard continued to explain the sale to AC Milan:
"It is hard when you are at the top level because it is so cut-throat and there are always difficult periods for young players."
"They (Tomori and Mason Mount) rought in a lot of energy and enthusiasm for us but I did also realise I underestimated the rest of the squad (at Derby County football club)", cocnluded Lampard.
