Galliani comments on new stadium project: “I love the San Siro, but…”

AC Milan and Inter are working together with the Municipality to accelerate the construction of the new stadium in the city. This means that the two iconic Milanese clubs would leave the San Siro for a new modern stadium.

Commenting on the topic, former Rossoneri club director, Adriano Galliani said the following to Corriere della Sera:

"I love the San Siro, but I consider its restructuring impossible for two reasons. The first is on the sporting-organizational level: with two teams and also the cups, where would the two teams move while the renovations are taking place?"

Galliani continued:

"Like Juve before the opening of their new Stadium? Exactly, but for a few years they had the opportunity to play their home games at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino, that is, in another venue in the same city of Turin. In Milan this opportunity would not exist. Then, San Siro is 100 years old. It was designed in 1925 and at the time it was just the home of Milan. It was inaugurated the following year and from 1935 it was bought by the Municipality, before also become the home for Inter's home matches in 1947. In 1955 the second ring was built with the aim of protecting the noble rows of the central stand from the rain. Do you know what the result is? including the sky boxes, the view of the pitch is excellent, but from that position it is impossible to see the spectacle of the other sectors. No modern stadium in Europe has this configuration."

"San Siro was the home of Berlusconi's Milan and mine for 31 years. But it's like a first love you never forget. It remains emotionally linked to you. But, life goes on."
