Coach Stefano Pioli's AC Milan managed to get the win against Sampdoria today at the San Siro in what was a very tough game.
The red and black side took the field with the following lineup:
4-2-3-1: Maignan; Calabria, Tomori, Romagnoli, Florenzi; Bennacer, Tonali; Messias, Díaz, Leão; Giroud
As for Marco Giampaolo's side, they took the Rossoneri with this lineup:
3-5-1-1: Falcone; Bereszyński, Magnani, Colley; Conti, Candreva, Rincón, Thorsby, Murru; Sensi; Caputo
It did not take Il Diavolo too long before finding the first and only goal of the game. An amazing long ball by Mike Maignan, controlled beautifully by Rafael Leao, who turned and drove the ball forward and put it in the goalkeeper's net.
The Portuguese winger proved once again that he is among the best in his position in Serie if not the best. Stefano Pioli has to be happy with the former Lille star and he will be hoping that he will continue playing this way.
Milan had many more chances throughout the game. But, unfortunately, the finish was lacking, at times due to the crucial saves and interventions of goalkeeper Falcone. Giroud was denied at least a goal today.
Ismael Bennacer and Sandro Tonali did well together in midfield while Franck Kessié sat on the bench. The Rossonero number 79, when he entered, was booed by the fans who are frustrated and unhappy about his contractual situation with the club.
What matters today is the victory. Three crucial points see Milan jump to first poisition in the table with 55 points. Inter are second with 54 points with one game still to be played at a later date. Napoli are third with 53 points. Juventus, after 24 matches, have 45 points in fourth position.
