AC Milan secured the three points against Cagliari tonight thanks to the goal scored by Ismael Bennacer in the 59th minute. It was a beautiful volley after a nice assist from Olivier Giroud. The Algerian's goal was the only one in a difficult pitch and environment. But, as always, winning is what counts the most at this stage of the season.

The Rossoneri started the game with the following lineup:

4-2-3-1: Maignan; Calabria, Kalulu, Tomori, Hernández; Bennacer, Kessie; Messias, Díaz, Leão; Giroud

As for the hosts, they started with the following formation:

3-4-2-1: Cragno; Goldaniga, Lovato, Altar; Bellanova, Grassi, Dalbert, Lykogiannis; João Pedro, Marin; Pavoletti

The game was really difficult since the first minute. It was clear that the squad of Walter Mazzarri wanted to grab a point from this fixture desperately. They tried to hold their ground well in the defensive phase by trying to block spaces and by often double teaming on Rafael Leao to limit his threats.

AC Milan struggled against Cagliari as the first half ended with a goalless draw. There were important chances, like the one of Giroud which was missed but the Frenchman was unlucky in front of goal. He would later make it up for his team by offering an incredible first-touch assist to set up a wonderful volley for Ismael Bennacer. Cragno had no answer for the Algerian's shot.

What should be discussed however, is that the team must work more in the attacking phase. In the second half, some clear-cut opportunities were missed. AC Milan could have put the game to bed against Cagliari. This is an an aspect which surely will be worked on soon. But for now, what matters is the victory.

Coach Pioli and his boys brought home 3 points and a clean sheet. Now, it is time for a little break, then focusing on the San Siro clash versus Bologna.

Below, you will find our ratings for the team players. Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
