On the very day that AC Milan announced their intention to build their stadium without relying on others, fiery words were launched by Silvia Sardone, the League's city commissioner, aimed squarely at Mayor Giuseppe Sala. Following Milan's official communication to Sala detailing their plan to go it alone on the stadium of the future, politics has officially entered the game.
Silvia Sardone, an MEP and the League's city commissioner, made her move with a barrage of scathing rhetoric. Her words are a direct hit on Milan's mayor. "The nervousness displayed by Mayor Sala in front of the press is nothing short of tragicomic. He slept on this issue for years and is now surprised by Milan and Inter's decision-making?"
But Sardone didn't stop there, instead she continued to unload, "The clubs have been obstructed by the Municipality in every possible way, and it is their right to consider other options. Sala will be remembered as the mayor who drove two nationally and internationally famous clubs away. The Meazza stadium will remain a cathedral in the desert, and the Municipality will lose 9 million euros annually."
