Origi booed by fans at San Siro – His expensive contract is starting to become a burden for AC Milan

The AC Milan fans at San Siro have undergone a remarkable transformation in recent years, rediscovering the supportive spirit towards the home team. No longer inclined to dwell on negatives, the stadium has become increasingly inclined to celebrate its team's happier moments. Case in point: Milan fans stood by their team during humiliating defeats against Sassuolo and Lazio, and the disappointing draw against Salernitana. However, a stark departure from this positive attitude was witnessed yesterday during Milan's match against Empoli when the crowd loudly and heavily booed Divock Origi as he was substituted for Olivier Giroud in the second half.

The former Liverpool player is now at risk of becoming an expensive burden for AC Milan, having failed to impress since his arrival. Maldini's confidence in him is reflected in the long contract he was offered, which runs until July 2026, with a net salary of 4 million euros per season. Such a lucrative and expensive contract is perhaps too much for a striker with only 2 goals to his name this season.

AC Milan's directors must address their goal-scoring problem urgently in the summer transfer market that is slowly approaching. They need to bolster their offensive department with at least a couple of new players: a young and prolific number 9 and a valuable backup. Divock Origi is currently in limbo, earning handsomely but failing to deliver on the pitch. To avoid the former Belgian international becoming an expensive flop, he must step up and showcase his technical skills and experience as pointed out by Calciomercato.com.
