AC Milan's victory against Newcastle was unfortunately not enough to stay in the Champions League competition. Instead, it's Paris Saint-Germain who accompanied Borussia Dortmund to the next round. The Rossoneri, meanwhile, will participate in the Europa League as they finished third.
Tuttosport reports this morning that the premature exit from the Champions League has effectively removed Milan from the race for the tournament taking place in the USA in 2025 (Inter will surely represent Italy, with either Juventus or Napoli). It's a real shame because it would have been a significant milestone for the Rossoneri group, which regrets the elimination from this Champions League, especially in the first two group matches against Newcastle and Borussia Dortmund.
A lot of regret for AC Milan...
Two 0-0 draws were recorded, but in terms of gameplay and chances created, Milan certainly deserved more than two points. Stefano Pioli himself, in yesterday's post-match comments, explained that the biggest regret was not winning the first match at San Siro against Newcastle: "The regret remains from the first game against Newcastle; we should have won it, and we are sorry to exit this way."
A victory in one of those two matches would have given Milan the necessary points to reach the Champions League round of 16.
