Mike Maignan is a big part of AC Milan's squad. He is a leader on the field and has great qualities as a goalkeeper. His future, however, is not certain.

As highlighted by Corriere dello Sport this morning, it all starts with the issue of contract renewal. Maignan has a contract with Milan until 2026, so for another two seasons. There wouldn't be too much to worry about if it weren't for the fact that the goalkeeper currently has a salary that is low compared to his real value, and a significant financial effort is needed to keep him within the club.

According to recent rumors, Maignan has requested a renewal with figures similar to those of Rafael Leao, who last year at this time secured his contract renewal as the highest-paid player on the team.

The club, for its part, believes that the player is worth that money and also considers Maignan an essential piece of their lineup. However, there are also some side effects. The most concerning one is related to injuries: in three seasons, the Frenchman has missed more than an entire championship if you consider the total number of games he was absent from (including the last four). From the club's perspective, it would be risky to pay so much for a player who, while extremely talented, has offered few guarantees in terms of physical continuity.

For this reason, since Maignan is rightly considered among the best in the world in his role, it is possible that in the coming weeks a sale could take place, something similar to what happened to Sandro Tonali who moved to Newcastle last summer.

Clearly, the Frenchman would bring in a substantial sum to reinvest in the market and, possibly, in his potential successor. In this regard, the only name that has come up in recent days is Diogo Costa, a goalkeeper playing for Porto, for whom the Portuguese club is asking for 45 million euros.

Speaking of Maignan, his value could increase with the European Championship with the French national team, as relayed via Milan News. In fact, he will be the starting goalkeeper for France and will have the eyes of the whole world on him. To maximise revenue, Milan would prefer offers from the Premier League. But the situation is still not very clear.
