A top club to enter race for Zirkzee – Milan may have to change its plans

For weeks, Joshua Zirkzee has been the leading candidate to replace Olivier Giroud at Milanello.

The forward, who played a key role in leading Bologna to the Champions League in the recently concluded season, has a release clause of 40 million euros. But, a surprising development in the past few hours, considering it was never previously considered, is that Bayern Munich's new coach, Vincent Kompany, wants the Dutch player back in Bavaria.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport reminded in this morning's edition, Zirkzee grew up in the German club, which retained 40% of his future resale value when he was sold to Bologna. This means he could return to Munich at a discount (25 million euros would suffice). Bayern’s renewed interest in the Dutch forward, coupled with the high commissions demanded by his agents, significantly complicates Milan's plans, forcing the club to consider other options.

The first alternative is Benjamin Sesko from Leipzig, though this option is also complex due to the high cost of the operation and strong competition from English teams.

Milan's interest in Serhou Guirassy, however, remains alive; the player scored 30 goals in 30 matches for Stuttgart this year. His price is relatively affordable, requiring just the payment of his 17.5 million euro release clause. Santiago Gimenez from Feyenoord is more expensive at 50 million euros, though this price does not deter the directors at Casa Milan.

The Rossoneri club management also continues to keep an eye on Jonathan David from Lille, valued at 40 million euros. Coach Fonseca knows him very well, having worked with him in France over the past two seasons.
