AC Milan's ownership, the Elliott Management Corporation, took over after the Chinese ownership and brought new management to replace the old ones. But, when the Americans took over, they inherited a very complicated situation. The club needed to have a clear strategy and vision to guide and settle the club's financial accounts.
According to Gazzetta, in Serie A's last season in 19 20, AS Roma have registered the biggest loss that is valued at €204M. Not far from it comes AC Milan with €195M in losses. Then, Inter is third with €102M. Juventus also registered a significant number of €90M while Napoli and Lazio saw a loss of €19M and €16M respectively.
It is clear that many Serie A clubs are struggling financially, and especially now since stadiums are closed during this delicate global health crisis, COVID-19.
This also affects the clubs' spending habits in the mercato. In fact, according to CIES estimates, in the first market window of the 2020-21 season the expenses Serie A have collapsed since €1250M in 2019 to €670M.
