Next Sunday, January 24, at 2:30 pm CET, the AC Milan Women’s team will travel to Florence in order to face on matchday 12 of the Serie A, first of the second half of the league. Though the Rossonere have won their first encounter in august on matchday one, San Gimignano is not a place that brings fond memories for Milan fans, and, also, Florentia itself is not a particularly easy opponent.
Since the 2018/2019 season, the teams have faced each other four times, twice at each other venue, and Milan have never scored more than 1 goal against the neroverdi. The diavolesse only have won at Vismara, in their first and last encounters, both with a one-nil score, thanks to an owngoal and beauty scored by Longo, respectively. At the Santa Lucia Stadium, in Florence, Milan and Florentia drew 1 to 1 in the 2018-2019 season and then came a traumatic defeat to the rossonere last season, before the halt of the competitions due to the covid-19 pandemic, as they scored first, with Giacinti, and saw a nightmare comeback by the hostesses with Kelly Meagan scoring a brace in the second half, turning the game around and giving Florentia the three points.
In order to keep up with Juventus and, more importantly, stay in the course to achieve this season’s goal, Milan must break this circle and get the job done. Luckily for us, almost every player who have scored so far on those four games, are rossonere nowadays (namely Bergamaschi, Giacinti, Longo and Salvatori-Rinaldi, who was a Florentia player and scored for them in the 2018-2019 season draw) and, maybe, who knows, it’s time for Salvatori-Rinaldi to score against her former club.
