The FIGC announced today the team of the first round of the 2020/2021 Women’s Serie A and three rossenere were nominated.
According to the Federation, the eleven players were chosen based on the statistical data brought by Opta, a leading global provider of sports statistics and, to better suit them, a 4-3-3 formation was chosen. The players come from seven different clubs in the league: AC Milan, Juventus, Sassuolo, Fiorentina, Internazionale, Empoli and AS Roma but the Rossonere and the Biaconere are the most represented teams, with three players each.
The best defense in the league was a force to be reckoned with, because our goalkeeper Mária Korenciova was nominated due to her percentage of saves in the first half of the league (81%), while two of our back three made it into this dream team, as Laura Agard was the politest defender, committing only 7 fouls in all 11 games and Laura Fusetti made amazing 35 interceptions, the highest number in the league among the center-backs.
Although those nominations are particularly good reasons for Milan fans to be confident about the team’s defensive performances, it should be noted that even with names like Verónica Boquete, Refiloe Jane and Julia Simic the midfield, none of them were nominated.
