Another victory and yet another show of mental strength and sacrifice by the AC Milan Women's team today against Florentia. For the first time Milan won at the Santa Lucia Stadium, thanks to Giacinti, who scored a brace, and the goalkeeper Korenciova, who worked miracles in the end of the game.
Valentina Giacinti early broke the deadlock with just four minutes on the clock after a small confusion in the penalty area following a corner kick, when Agard managed to find the captain with a backhell-ish pass. From that distance, Giacinti showed no mercy and scored the opener, and her ninth goal in Serie A. At the 39 minutes, though, after a quick exchange of passes in front of the rossonere area, Anghileri outrunned the Milan defense and found the back of the net, equalizing the game.
After the break, the teams came back to the field without changes and Milan kept in charge of the actions but didn’t create many chances to bother the Florentia’s defense, suffering from numerous individuals passes errors and poor decision making in front of the area, sometimes rushing to an early cross or an finishing with no angle at all, leaving the neroverdi’s goalkeeper Friedli as a spectator for a while. When called in to action, the said keeper did very well, like defending an very good long-range effort by Dowie.
Luckily for us, Friedli made a pass error in the 65th minute and Mauri was in the right spot to pounce on the ball and give Giacinti a sweet, sweet assist the captain turned into her second goal in the game, her tenth in the Serie A and fourth doppietta in the season, sealing the final score. Before the final whistle, Korenciova made a crucial one-on-one save against Cantore, keeping the result and guaranteeing the three points.
With the result, Milan is still second on the table, now having collected 33 points in the league and, thanks to Sassuolo’s defeat by AS Roma, the diavolesse have a comfortable 8 points advantage to the former, who has 25 points.
The Serie A 202021/2021 will have a two-week break now and next round AC Milan will face San Marino Academy, at the Sports Center Vismara in February, 7, at 12:30 pm CET.
