Diogo Dalot signed for AC Milan on a season-long loan from Manchester United last summer, with the Rossoneri managers looking for a possibility to make the deal permanent if the player delivers good performances.
However, after another poor performance by the young full-back, it seems unlikely that will happen.
Dalot, who was signed by Jose Mourinho during his time at Old Trafford, never really got going at United and it was hoped his move to the San Siro would kick-start his career.
But after 22 league games, Dalot has played just nine times with just five starts. The latest start came in a poor 2-0 defeat against mid-table side Spezia. He was frequently caught out of position as Spezia tested the Milan goal throughout the game.
The Italian media did not go easy on Dalot as he was given low score ratings and pundits claimed that his form was poor.
Dalot's spot in the Milan team is usually held by Davide Calabria, one of the brightest full-backs in Serie A. Hernandez holds the left-back spot, and it seems that if Dalot were to stay he would simply be used as an understudy to both.
There is no buy option in his loan contract, meaning Milan would have to negotiate a fee with United at the end of the season if they change their mind and decide to sign him permanently.
