As we rapidly go through the Serie A matchday calendar, the Rossoneri have finally made their way to yet another huge fixture. The Milan derby between the two rival brothers will take place on the 23rd matchday.
Milan is coming off a slump in their form not getting the expected results to go their way in the last couple of games. They traveled to Belgrade for their Europa League Round of 32 1st leg fixture in which Milan came away with a draw conceding in stoppage time. Though a win would've been favorable for the Rossoneri, they managed to get two crucial away goals that can be helpful for the 2nd leg.
The title race between these two sides has been going on since the start of the season but only just recently have Inter managed to capitalize to take the lead on Milan. Currently, Inter sits at the top of the table with 50 points and Milan trails them by a point. This game could ultimately help the Rossoneri’s dreams of a title this season or be a setback.
A victory for Milan would launch them back into the top of the table, a draw would keep them within reach of their rivals, and a loss could potentially set back the dreams and hopes of a Scudetto this season.
This clash between the two Milan giants is all or nothing. Pioli must get his team right and here is how Milan's lineup could appear:
Milan: 4-2-3-1: G. Donnarumma, Calabria, Kjaer, Romagnoli, Hernandez; Tonali, Kessié; Saelemakers, Çalhanoğlu, Rebic, Ibrahimović
Kjaer and Romagnoli will be looking to partner up on defense to shut down any means of attacking opportunities against Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez. Theo Hernandez will be battling it out with ex-Real Madrid teammate Achraf Hakimi on the wings after his impressive display in the Europa League. Tonali and Kessié will want to control the game in the midfield. Kessié will be very influential with ball retention and strength on one on one duels in the midfield area. Hakan Çalhanoğlu, Rafael Leão, and Zlatan Ibrahimović will all be hungry looking for any and every opportunity to create some magic for the Rossoneri to find the back of the net.
Hakan is tied with Henrikh Mkhitaryan for the most assists in Serie A with a tally of 8, he will be looking to find his teammates to find the back of the net. Zlatan Ibrahimović trails the Capocannoniere race with 14 goals tied with Lazio's Ciro Immobile in 3rd place while Cristiano Ronaldo and Romelu Lukaku lead the race tied for 1st with 16 goals.
A winning result would put all the rough performances behind the Rossoneri and launch them into a better place with high esteem and full momentum.
