UEFA appointed a disciplinary investigator on Tuesday to look at allegations that Zlatan Ibrahimovic was racially abused when the Rossoneri face Red Star in Serbia last week in the Europa League competition.
Ibrahimovic was sitting in the stands as a substitute during the entirety of the match and there was footage which emerged that proved racial insults were shouted at him.
The alleged abuse targeted Ibrahimovic’s Balkan family roots. He was born in Sweden to a Muslim father from Bosnia and Herzegovina, and a Catholic mother from Croatia.
After that incident, Red Star's management issued an apology to Zlatan Ibrahimovic and saying that they will find the culprit and have the necessary legal proceedings to deal with the issue.
UEFA gave no timetable for its investigator to report to the disciplinary committee:
"In accordance with the Article 31(4) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations, an Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector has been appointed today to conduct a disciplinary investigation regarding incidents which occurred during the UEFA Europa League Round of 32 match between Crvena zvezda and AC Milan (2-2), played on 18 February 2021 in Serbia."
