According to Goal.com, Milan are in need of a Champions League qualification to help the club afford Chelsea loan player Fikayo Tomori. Milan's free fall out of their Champions League spot will hurt the club economically, and they could lose Tomori in the process. The Rossoneri are keen to keep the player on a permanent deal at the end of the season, and securing a Champions League bid would make the £26 million purchase easier for the club.
Tomori is reported to be interested at staying with Milan on a permanent deal, as he has adjusted nicely to the Italian club. Milan officials too have expressed their interest in keeping the Englishman, but the fee is expensive. They hope to get a discount from Chelsea, or an option to spread out the payments, but Chelsea historically has been difficult to negotiate with. The cash earned from a Champions League bid would help resolve this issue.
Milan are currently sitting in fifth place in the league with just five matches remaining. They are battling Juventus and Napoli for a spot, with a head to head match against Juventus next weekend. The finale to the season will not be light for Milan, and the future of Tomori could depend on it.
