UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin gave an official statement today regarding the disbandment of the European Super League, and reinstatement of the rebel clubs. Since 9 out of the 12 clubs have officially pulled out of the project, the ESL is disbanded based on their own guidelines. The 9 clubs, including AC Milan, have been reinstated to UEFA after an official statement from the president:
“I told the UEFA Congress two weeks ago that it takes a strong organization to admit that you have made a mistake, especially in these days of social media trials. These clubs have done just that. By accepting their commitments and willingness to redress the inconvenience they have caused, UEFA wants to leave this chapter behind and move forward in a positive spirit. The announced measures are significant, but none of the financial penalties will be withheld by UEFA. They will all be reinvested in youth and grassroots football in local communities across Europe, including the UK. These clubs quickly recognized their mistakes and took steps to show their repentance and future commitment to European football. The same cannot be said for clubs that remain involved in the so-called "Super League" and UEFA will look after these clubs later on.,"
The "remaining involved" President Ceferin mentioned include Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid, as they have refused to pull out of the ESL agreement. The president did mention that clubs will be affected financially, and UEFA has confimed that all 9 clubs agreed to make a combined donation of £13m to benefit grassroots football across Europe, as wells seeing 5% of their revenue from UEFA competition withheld for one season. Milan is in a position to be playing either Champions League or Europa football next season, so they club will be affected from this punishment.
