As reported by The Sun, Premier League club Arsenal are set to move in on right-back Emerson Royal. Emerson was acquired in a joint purchase by Real Betis and Barcelona. After the conclusion of this past season, Barca executed a clause that would allow the club to pay the remaining value to acquire the player from Real Betis, where he made all of his La Liga appearances thus far. Barcelona sees the player as part of their future project, but could consider selling the player for the right price.
Emerson is hopeful to play for his parent club, and has stated publicly: “Barca is the club I dreamed of since the beginning of my career, it is the fruit of my work and I am happy,".
The path could change for the player, however, as Barca are in a financial pinch and may look to profit off of their newly acquired player. Management for Barcelona has reportedly met with Emerson’s entourage regarding his future.
Arsenal have gained word of the situation in Spain, and have already inquired about the player. The Gunners are looking to rebuild their squad, and a young player with huge potential could fit in to the plan. Barca are reportedly looking to claim at least 21.5 million euros for Emerson.
Milan, too, have been keeping tabs on Emerson. The Rossoneri look for a reinforcement to both the right and left back positions. Emerson could fit the role of playing with Calabria and Theo for the right price. Considering some big purchases to be made this summer, Milan may have difficulty paying over 20 million euros for a rotational player, but they will be sure to monitor the situation this summer.
