Before the match against Strasbourg, Brest's sporting director Gregory Lorenzi commented on the Romain Faivre case who did not join his teammates for the game. Here are the director's word:
"We were very surprised when yesterday, at the meeting to leave for Strasbourg, the player told us that he would not be leaving with us. The reason is not because he is against the club, but because he wants to leave and has made the decision not to take risks that could jeopardize a potential transfer given that there is a negotiation with a club (Milan). We will take a decision and sanctions against Faivre."
Are you disappointed with this attitude?
"I am disappointed, yes. But in this case, there is a coach and there is a director who manage things. You can sit around a table, discuss and make a decision. We have the feeling that we have been taken hostage by this decision. I think it was not the best way to act as there are discussions going on with a club. Just see what's going on with Mbappé. There is a negotiation between PSG and Real Madrid, but he remained at Pochettino's disposal. There can be no people standing above the club. All this will not remain without consequences."
On the possibility that Faivre will remain at Brest?
"Yes, we have to be clear. As I've always said, I have no moral problem if anyone wants to leave. He is a sought-after footballer. But we need to stay focused on offers that are in line with the club's financial situation. But, once again, I repeat that we are not here to make discounts. And with this attitude, we are not satisfied. We will continue with our reflections and then understand how to react. It is not the players who decide, but only the club."
Have you rejected an official offer from Milan?
"Yes, there are negotiations underway. There are still 48 hours to go, but we are far from what you can imagine."
Could Faivre's attitude affect the negotiations?
"Yes, it could. However, we'll think about it after the game."
