The Serie A resumes action this weekend after the international break and the AC Milan Women have a big challenge ahead of them this weekend as they take on Sassuolo.
Probable line-ups
Maurizio Ganz named his 22-woman squad list for Sassuolo clash and, fortunately, every single player who was on international duty last week is fit. On another happy note, Nina Stapelfeldt is back in the game after recovering from injury. He is poised to deploy the big guns tomorrow, on his usual 3-4-2-1 formation.
On the other hand, Gianpiero Piovani still doesn’t have his star player, Maltese forward Haley Bugeja, available. However, seasoned Scottish forward Lana Clelland is proving herself to be a suitable substitute, with three goals and one assist in three games. Sassuolo play uses a 4-4-2 formation, transitioning from flat to a diamond midfield during the match.
AC MILAN (3-4-2-1): Giuliani; Fusetti, Agard, Codina; Thrige, Adami, Jane, Bergamaschi; Vero, Thomas; Giacinti.
SASSUOLO (4-4-2): Lemey; Orsi, Dongus, Filangeri, Philtjens; Brignoli, Tomaselli, Dubcova, Mihashi; Clelland, Cantore.
The road so far
Sitting atop of the league’s table after three wins in the first three rounds, the rossonere seems to be more than ready for the clash against Piovani’s squad. So far, Milan have beaten Hellas Verona, Sampdoria and Lazio, scored 13 goals and conceded 1.
Sassuolo also have won their three Serie A games, against Fiorentina, Hellas Verona, and Sampdoria. The neroverde scored 8 goals and conceded 1.
Milan, Sassuolo, Juventus, Roma and Inter all have the same 9 points but, according to FIGC’s tie-breaker criteria, while Milan lead the pack, with a positive 12 goal difference, Sassuolo sit fifth in the table due their positive 7 goal difference.
Keep an eye on
We’ve seen the damage Sassuolo could do last year and it seems that things have not changed so far. Pionavi’s team plays aggressive and fast football, with Clelland and Cantore, who are skilled goal poachers, upfront ready to strike at any opportunity. Milan must keep an eye on the right side of Sassuolo’s attack because Tomaselli and Dubcova tend to take turns at getting into the box.
