AC Milan club CEO, Ivan Gazidis talked to The Athletic about the stadium project. Here are his words:
"It is a formidable progress. I am very happy with this. We had the elections here in Milan and the mayor was re-elected. Coming out of this electoral cycle, which had suspended everything for a few months, we now have a very clear direction on the new stadium, which is an essential project, not only for football but for the city of Milan, and the mayor is fully in favour, together with the council."
"There are always individual opinions, but I would say that the main obstacle has been overcome. Now let's move on to a new phase of the project which is that of drawings and detailed construction plans. This takes time with the architects to prepare the construction itself. It is a very exciting and significant step forward." he said.
Gazidis continued:
"The new stadium project could provide a model for the rest of Italy, a shining beacon for the rest of Italian football. I am convinced that other stadium projects that have encountered skepticism in their respective local markets will also have a huge catalyst, a huge boost. What it can be is a reinvigorated football league with many teams playing in brand new, radically refurbished facilities, where the fans are really welcomed, presenting a great television product, a league that is commercially alive again, because the clubs will invest in their business operations when they see that those investments pay off."
"For me, it will take 10 to 15 years for this vision to become a reality, but it has to start now and it will start with the San Siro stadium", thus concluded Gazidis his interview, relayed by Milannews.it.
