Matteo Gabbia spoke to Milan TV after his renewal with the club. He had the following statements to say:
"I'm really happy to extend my contract with this glorious club. I know this lovely story will last a few more years."
On his debut:
"My debut with the First Team was a great experience. I will always remember it, I'm so happy to have experienced it. I hope this journey remains as long as possible and be as bright as possible."
On Stefano Pioli:
"Mister Pioli has been essential to my growth process. I owe this renewal to him for believing in me even before my debut in Serie A. I thank him and I hope there will be more important moments in the field with him as our coach."
On his injury against Hellas Verona:
"That injury was really painful for me in my young career. But, I found continuity which made me feel happy and important because I was playing regularly and I thank my teammates who have always supported me. I also thank the staff at Milanello who help us get rid of any problems...", said Gabbia.
On his goal:
"Our goal as youngsters who find themselves palying as starters in some games and playing from the bench in other matches is to be always ready. That is what the coach wants from us, to train and be ready when the team needs us."
He added:
"We have to improve as a whole unit. Our goal has to be to improve from the day before and that goes for me too. I still have room for technical growth and also in terms of character on a human level. I can only improve and become a better person and player."
On Simon Kjaer and Alessio Romagnoli:
"Simon has been very important, playing in my same role. Alessio Romagnoli, too. They have both been very important for me both in games where I did well and in others where I didn't do very well. They always told me words of comfort or advice which helps me grow as a professional. I will thank them forever."
Gabbia added:
"It's a great feeling to be part of this club, to have Paolo Maldini as the director, it makes me proud, even just talking to him. A few years back, meeting Maldini was a dream. Today, seeing him and having him in my daily life is fantastic. I hope this can be a good omen, to win a trophy, maybe already this season. I take this opportunity to thank our directors Paolo Maldini, (Frederic) Massara and Gazidis who have always been by our side."
"I would like to thank the club as a whole", he said, "because they believed in me."
