Giuseppe Sala, Milan's mayor, spoke to the microphones of Sky Sport about the future of the San Siro, stadium shared by AC Milan and their rivals inter, once again:
"Milan is aware of its strength and is aware of the improvements it needs to make. The Olympics, like major events, have this opportunity to convince citizens that change is possible. There will be a collective effort, the Milanese, thanks also to the experience of Expo, know that it can be done."
He added:
"The Olympics will be experienced above all in the southern part, where there will be the new Pala Italia and the Olympic Village. All realities that will see a later life. Our goal will be to make those areas safe and accessible."
Do you think the opening ceremony for the Milan-Cortina olympics will be the farewell of the San Siro stadium?
"It could be San Siro's greeting to its glorious history. As mayor I don't have to think about what I like but about things that are right and what can be done. We are still in the discussion with the football teams, and with the citizens, but I think it is a topic that we must now get out of."
