Legendary former coach of AC Milan Arrigo Sacchi who wrote an important part of the club's history, has spoken with La Gazzetta dello Sport to share his opinion and thoughts about Paolo Maldini's recent interview:
"Paolo Maldini was a champion in the field and confirms himself as a champion even as a director. Elegance, competence: this is his style. He took young people to Milan and now we have to be careful of the trap of success, which has also caged the Italian national team. I don't know what will happen, I hope that the AC Milan fans will be able to overcome the flattery. Meanwhile, we can say: honor to Paolo, but also to Massara and to Pioli who was the creator of a less tactical and more strategic football."
Sacchi added:
"Great players are not enough: blockbusters have always had a cast with the best actors, but they have not become cult films. Pioli has grown up and modesty is a great virtue. When Milan didn't play as a team, they stopped but showed generosity, enthusiasm and intelligence. At the international level, however, even more strategy is needed. It would be unreasonable not to confirm Maldini in the role of technical director: he was a leading member of this success, an author of this masterpiece. Ideas are worth more than money and Milan have shown they have a lot. It takes a lot of competence and Paolo has shown that he has it. I'd be very sorry if Maldini doesn't stay. This country needs awareness and clarity.
