Sunday will be a decisive day for the future of Sesto San Giovanni area as the result of elections will be revealed. AC Milan are keeping an eye on the situation with great interest.
The run-off of the 2022 municipal elections will be held between the center-right candidate Roberto Di Stefano (48.8% in the first round) and the center-left candidate Michele Foggetta (38.4% in the first round). Both candidates were interviewed by Corriere della Sera and they expressed their opinions about the idea of building a stadium for Milan in the Sesto San Giovanni area. Roberto Di Stefano, the current mayor, said the following:
"We are already discussing with the Region about the future viability. In addition to creating the road junction, we want to design a new route for the northern light rail: it will have to deviate towards Sesto, passing through the Falck areas and therefore the future stadium. Reduced construction times? The time it takes to present the project to us and to study it with the council, it would take 18 months."
Michele Foggetta expressed himself in this way about the stadium project:
"We are neither for nor against. We have some doubts and we ask to evaluate the project, but we are certainly not afraid to sit down at the table. As a Milan fan, I would also like my team to have its own facility."
