Rafael Leao has interest from top clubs including Premier League outfit Chelsea. But, it seems that the London-based club could shift their attention elsewhere: specifically towards RB Leipzig's French 24-year-old star Christopher Nkunku.
According to what is reported by German outlet BILD, shortly before the closing of the last market window, the player in question underwent a medical examination for Chelsea near Frankfurt, in preparation for his move to the Blues in the next summer.
The player is a highly talented one who can play as an attacking midfielder but also on the wings. Calciomercato.com point out that if this news from the German outlet is confirmed, then it would explain Paolo Maldini's words in a recent interview: "Chelsea? Their offer came in an informal way, and it was rejected."
The Italy-based website adds that the AC Milan club directors continue to work closely on the Rafael Leao renewal front and they also continue to work with Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon to find a solution to the legal dispute with the left-winger.
Chelsea's move for Nkunku could take some pressure off Milan, but Manchester City and Pep Guardiola indeed do remain interested in Leao.
