Atalanta's head coach, Gian Piero Gasperini, made some statements to the microphones of the Radio Anch'io Sport broadcast on Rai Radio 1. Here are his words about the Scudetto race, as his team is currently placed second in the Serie A standings with 24 points, two points away from first-placed Napoli and 1 point further AC Milan who are third:
"The world of football is pushing in completely different directions, towards teams that have more following. This seems to be the main requirement. We cannot say that we are fighting for the Scudetto for our resources, just like Udinese, who are doing important things."
He added:
"As far as I'm concerned, having reached the Champions League three times meant having turned all the spotlights on. For a team like Atalanta, the Italian Cup is the most achievable goal."
Gasperini concluded:
"Champions and Europa League are even more difficult for the Italian teams… We have reached the final in the Italian Cup twice, we have not managed to win, but it is the most possible goal."
