Referee Paolo Valeri spoke to the media about a controversial moment in the draw between Atalanta and Milan which ended 1-1, the game saw a horrific tackle by right-back Hans Hateboer on Rafael Leao which should have been a red card, but wasn't. He was in charge of VAR and did not intervene. Here are his words:
"Yes, on Hateboer (Atalanta-Milan), I was wrong. I was at VAR and that intervention was a clear red card. It was a mistake but I'll explain: the player got up immediately, no one asked for anything, the game resumed almost immediately. It happened to me, it happened last year in Turin-Inter (Ranocchia's foul on Belotti from a penalty). We have to be more careful."
