AC Milan are looking to sign a goalkeeper to be the backup of Mike Maignan in view of next season as Ciprian Tatarusanu is likely to leave without having his contract renewed. The Rossoneri management have identified Marco Sportiello as their target for this role. He is a 30-year-old Italian playing for Atalanta and his contract is due to expire once this season ends. Therefore, he will be available on a free next summer.
Coach Stefano Pioli is already familiar with Sportiello and likes him. As per Calciomercato.com, Atalanta have an option to extend Sportiello's deal by 1 year. However, it will not be exercised because they are aware that Sportiello does not wish to remain with them.
The unilateral option to renew the contract will therefore not be used. Marco Sportiello is free to go to Milan.
