AC Milan‘s former legendary defender, Alessandro Costacurta, gave a long interview to Tuttosport in which he also talked a lot about the Rossoneri players. Here are some of his statements:
“It’s right to wait for (Charles) De Ketelaere, as both Pioli and Maldini said. The Belgian, though, lacked character and he must show it now.I understand the difficulties caused by the change of city, environment, game system and type of football. We will see how he returns from the World Cup.”
On Rafael Leao:
“Everything has a limit and Milan have set limits with this management. If Leao does not accept the renewal proposal that will be submitted to him, then he will go where he wants”, Said Costacurta, “I like this philosophy of Milan. If Leao were to play in a great World Cup and a team showed up with an important offer, I’d be ready to give him away immediately. Maldini and Massara would be able to find suitable replacements to stay at certain levels.”
On the expected return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic:
“I expect his usual contribution. Giroud, on the other hand is surprising with how many goals he has scored. For me, Zlatan is still 50% stronger than Giroud.”
Costacurta on Stefano Pioli:
“I remember when he arrived in October 2019 what was said about him, that he had never won the championship which was a limit for some to lead a team like Milan. He followed his path, he grew up and for this I choose him as the Scudetto character.”
On AC Milan director Paolo Maldini:
“I have known Paolo for 40 years, I know who he is and what he could give, I had no doubts that he could be an excellent director.”
