The latest performances of Sergino Dest in the World Cup have helped the USA progress to the next round in Qatar. The Rossoneri full-back was certainly one of the best players in the three games played against Wales, England and Iran and could be the turning point of his season with Milan as well.
As Tuttosport explained, Dest at the World Cup did nothing but follow up on the excellent performances he showed in his last few outings with Milan, especially in the match against Fiorentina in which he was one of the best coming on as a substitute.
With the United States, Dest provided a precise headed assist for Pulisic against Iran, valid for the goal which then guaranteed a place for the Americans in the round of 16.
Now, the Rossoneri fans are hoping that the FC Barcelona loanee will continue on working hard and carry on such a momentum with him to Milan once the World Cup is over. He will have to convince the club of keeping him permanently. The buy-out clause inserted in the loan agreement with FC Barcelona is not little: 20 million euros. Milan, before thinking of the strategy to follow in the talks with the Spaniards (either exercising the buy-option or maybe trying to ask for a discount), Dest must help his Rossoneri teammates and prove himself to Stefano Pioli. He will have to compete with Alessandro Florenzi and Davide Calabria who, once they recover from injuries, will do their best to carve space for themselves on the right flank. Therefore, any talk about negotiations with FC Barcelona now is simply premature.
