La Gazzetta Dello Sport wrote in this morning’s print edition that the AC Milan team captain Davide Calabria is about to return to the group. There is optimism to see him available for the game in Florence against Fiorentina on Saturday. In the current Milan squad, he could find space in the three-man defence on the right, perhaps replacing Kalulu.
Alternatively, he could play on the right side of midfield in place of either Junior Messias or Alexis Saelemaekers. Davide Calabria as a center-back could be useful for defensive attention and for how he sets up play.
Algerian midfielder Ismael Bennacer is also nearing a return to the playing field. With Fiorentina and especially Tottenham on the horizon, Pioli is updating the list of available players. Calabria’s hip abductor muscle is improving and Bennacer is accelerating to come back. The problem with the left hamstring is increasingly less of an issue and Milan is waiting for him. Pioli’s project is missing only the former Empoli talent. In this regard, the game against Fiorentina is not as important as the Champions League clash with Tottenham in London on March 8.
