As per La Gazzetta Dello Sport in this morning's print edition, AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinal himself has taken action for Milan's stadium, as extensively reported yesterday when he met with Sala and then Fontana. The area around the San Siro racetrack is the front-runner, but Sesto and San Donato are also in the race. Analyses will take place in March, with decisions on the stadium to be made by April, regardless of the outcome of the meeting, which was not technical but political.
Two key points of the dialogue remain: Milan's great attention to the La Maura area - even though it should be emphasised that the other options remain absolutely possible, and the intention, more or less declared, to proceed alone. In addition to the assurance that the club's decisions do not intend to go against anyone, but are made solely in the specific interest of the club itself. Sala and Cardinale compared their respective needs, and the most pressing one for the Rossoneri is urgency. That's why Cardinale has decided to move again in person, after last May's blitz in Sesto San Giovanni. In his eyes, the stadium issue must be resolved quickly.
La Maura area has a particular situation in all of this. Snaitech, the current owner, has signed a preliminary sale agreement with F3A Green and its president Federico Consolandi, a well-known Milanese real estate developer for projects such as the Washington Building and Bosconavigli by Stefano Boeri. Milan will have to speak with both companies - and is already doing so - to reach an agreement.
The stadium would be built in the northern part of the area, taking advantage of the existing sports destination. Snaitech, on the other hand, will retain a permanent right to an area in the south for horse training, even if the definitive transfer to F3A Green planned by December 2024 is realized. The area, which covers 75 hectares, convinces Sala, who does not like to see Milan outside the city and could allocate an area currently inaccessible to the community, another strong point of the La Maura proposal. While Sesto and San Donato remain in the running, Milan is now working hard, very hard, on this green area just a stone's throw from San Siro.
