For months, AC Milan have been seeking an area to independently build its own stadium: the project, which was initially planned with Inter, has been abandoned, reportedly. The Rossoneri club ownership have evaluated various areas, particularly La Maura and Sesto San Giovanni, but in the end, the choice should fall on the San Francesco area in San Donato.
The news has been circulating for a few days, but an important step seems to have been taken yesterday: as reported by Il Cittadino, Milan have allegedly signed a preliminary agreement with the company 'Sportlifecity'.
This is a kind of preliminary understanding between private parties for the transfer of the package of urban planning permits related to the San Francesco area. In recent weeks, there have already been technical meetings between the parties (namely engineers and architects from Milan, Sportlifecity, and the Municipality).
The path to the new stadium is still very long, also because there are already opponents to the project of a new facility costing over 600 million euros in that area. Alongside environmentalists, for example, there are opposition councilors such as Gina Falbo from Insieme per San Donato and Gianfranco Ginelli from the Democratic Party, who recently submitted an inquiry to the mayor seeking clarification on the stadium issue.
