AC Milan has welcomed their first signing of the summer transfer window and that is: Marco Sportiello. The former Atalanta goalkeeper spoke to Milan TV and said the following statements:
On his initial feelings:
"I have been a Milan fan since birth, coming from a family of Milan fans, so for me, it's a dream come true and a matter of great pride. I want to repay the club's trust on the field. I was truly the typical Milanista."
On his idol from the past:
"As a child, my idol was Sebastiano Rossi. I really liked his goalkeeping style. I was truly the typical Milanista. There isn't a specific reason why I became a goalkeeper, perhaps my physique helped me a lot in wanting to pursue this role."
On Mike Maignan, Sportiello said:
"In my career, I've had many loan spells in different leagues. This is a final step for me. Maignan is a fantastic goalkeeper in every aspect, but it's not for me to say. I will learn a lot from him. I'm 31 years old, and you can always learn from the best."
On Stefano Pioli:
"I spent a year with him in Florence. I had a great time, it was a good season. I always felt a connection with him; there's great mutual respect between us. He has given me a lot, even though we had worked together for only a year. I'm happy to work with him again."
On the atmosphere of San Siro:
"In the penultimate matchday of the league, I played at San Siro against Inter. And I thought that next year, this will be my stadium. San Siro is incredible; it will be exciting to play in this stadium."
On the shirt number, Sportiello offered this explanation:
"It refers to the 5th of July, so 5 and 7, which is the birthdate of my daughter and my wife, so I would say it's my number."
A message to the fans:
"Hello Milan fans, it's a true honour for me to be here. I promise you that I will give my all every day. Sending you a big hug. Forza Milan!"
