Tijjani Reijnders spoke to the media in a press conference today as he introduced himself as a new AC Milan player.
"I can say that I received a fantastic welcome. I am very happy. The first days have been fantastic. I have spoken with Pioli and my teammates, and I am happy with the choice I made."
In the history of Milan, there have been many Dutch midfielders who have made history, and there seems to be a special connection with these players who have made history.
"Of course, I've seen the Dutch players at Milan, and what they have achieved for this club is incredible. I hope to make a positive impact at this club too."
What kind of player are you?
"I am a modern midfielder. I am versatile and can play in different positions, including defensive ones, but I enjoy attacking. I also like to create goal-scoring opportunities."
Tell us about your decision to say no to Barcelona and yes to Milan?
"Initially, I spoke with Moncada and Pioli, and they explained what they expected from me, making the choice easier for me."
Where do you think you can improve in Italian football?
"I believe that in Dutch football, the positions are more fluid. Here, I think I can become more well-rounded as a player."
What are Pioli's plans for the midfield?
"Pioli wants to play with two midfielders who can open up the lines and support the attack, and then there should be a player who can defend and provide balance. We need to work on that and find the right balance. He wants me to play in the center to give my best alongside my teammates."
Are there any similarities or differences between you and Koopmeiners, and will you play in today's friendly? Reijnders answered:
"I don't think there are many similarities between me and him. There are differences. I can say that he has a very powerful shot. I am more of a creative player, focusing on technical aspects. As for today, I won't play."
What has changed in you in the last season at AZ?
"During the season, I felt like a more complete player, and I improved my self-confidence, thanks to the other players at AZ who gave me the opportunity to grow."
Have any of your national teammates said anything about Milan?
"I talked to Koop during the national team camp, and he told me how great it would be to play in Italy, for such a prestigious club."
What are your main characteristics, and is there any past player you resemble?
"I like to create opportunities and take on defenders. What I'll do here will be even better than what I did at AZ. Seedorf was a player I admired, but it's not fair to make comparisons."
Which teammates are you looking forward to playing with?
"I observed what Milan did last year. Leao and Theo are two players I can't wait to play alongside."
Is Milan the turning point in your career?
"Yes, it's a very important step for me."
Are you ready to take responsibility for set-pieces? Reijnders said:
"Yes, I'll do it my way. However, I'm not afraid of making mistakes. I want to have confidence in my game on the field, and I'll show it. I'll put myself out there and do my best for Milan."
