Speaking to ESN Talks, AC Milan's Mike Maignan talked about different topics such as his mentality and how he approaches the games. Here are his words:
"For me, it was boring. You watch the others play, you don't have fun, and you get angry. Then I went to Clairefontaine with a coach who told me, 'If you make it to the last round, stay in goal.' I made it to the last round, so in the end, I had to stay in goal."
The former Lille goalkeeper commented on the role he plays on the field:
"You have to have personality, you have to be creative, you have to have a mindset. The mindset is fundamental. Being the best goalkeeper in the world for a year is easy, but doing it for several years is not. That's why you have to work a lot mentally. I work three times as much every day. I try to maintain these basic notions and work on the details."
Maignan continued:
"I wake up every morning to work and to be the best. My teammates are with me, we play for the same team on the weekend, but when I leave training, I have to be better than them. When there's a match, my team has to win. If it doesn't, it's a problem."
On the competition, he said:
"Sometimes I receive notifications that I don't like very much, like a goalkeeper being better than me and things like that, which bother me because I know it's not true. So what do I do? Sometimes I go crazy. I get up and go to the gym at 11 PM."
