Against Newcastle and Borussia Dortmund, the first at home and the second in Germany, AC Milan obtained two points after two goalless draws. If you add the semifinals against Inter from last season, it is four consecutive games without goals in the UEFA Champions League competition.
Milan, the Champions League does not forgive.
As pointed out this morning by the Italy-based newspaper Tuttosport in this morning's print edition, Rafael Leao made sure to criticise the whole team: "Disappointed with the result. We need to learn from these games and be more ruthless in the next one..."
That's why these two draws for the Rossoneri, as positive as the performances have been in terms of attitude, leave a bitter taste in the mouth, especially considering the difficulty and the unpredictable course of the group.
Even Giroud struggled a lot...
After a strong start to the season, Olivier Giroud is now suffering from a goal drought. The French striker never managed to get into the game and in his only two chances, which often are enough for him to turn an entire performance around, he fired one over the bar from a very good position and the other saw him stumble. But it's not just about the missed chances - which still had their weight - but also about helping the offensive maneuver: few key passes, few movements to open up the field for his teammates' runs, far from the midfield and poorly served.
AC Milan's Swiss forward, Noah Okafor entered the pitch later during the second half. However, not much was changed. Little to say instead about Rafael Leao, who was the real danger number one: maybe a bit intermittently as usual, but every time he went down the left he created big problems for the German defense.
