In recent days, Giuseppe Sala, the mayor of Milan, has put forward a new proposal to AC Milan and Inter to persuade them not to build the new stadium outside the Lombardy region. The head of Palazzo Marino has in fact stated that he is also willing to provide financial assistance to the club that decides to modernise the current San Siro. However, as explained this morning by Corriere della Sera, both clubs have firmly rejected this offer (a sentiment that had already been communicated to Sala).
The reason is simple: to begin construction, it would be necessary to wait for the other team to move to the new facility, which would mean waiting for at least another five years before starting to work on the San Siro facility.
