AC Milan's defensive emergency is a dilemma for the coach. Stefano Pioli's only available choices in centre-back position right now are Fikayo Tomori and Malick Thiaw. But, there is also the issue of the striker's role.
In fact, with Olivier Giroud suspended for two matches by the Sports Judge and Rafael Leao out due to injury, Pioli will have a difficult time in choosing the lineup.
AC Milan's aleternatives have disappointed...
As reported this morning by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Stefano Pioli will have to replace the Frenchman against Fiorentina. And it won't be easy since the alternatives, for now, have not completely convinced: Luka Jovic, who is his designated replacement on paper, has been disappointing so far, while Noah Okafor prefers to start from the left, and as a center forward, he has started only once so far against Cagliari.
Against Fiorentina, one of the two will take Olivier Giroud's place, who is Milan's top scorer and the second-highest scorer in Serie A with 7 goals (only Lautaro Martinez has scored more, 12).
AC Milan boss, Pioli, aims to have Leao back in the Champions League game versus Borussia Dortmund.
Against Fiorentina, Leao will also be absent, so two-thirds of Milan's starting trident will be out. The Portuguese, dealing with a thigh injury, will work hard during this break to recover for the decisive Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund, scheduled a few days after the Fiorentina game.
For that Champions League clash, Giroud will be available, and after scoring against Paris Saint-Germain, he wants to lead Milan to the knockout stages.
