The mood at Milanello is not the best, as anyone can tell after a difficult match against Borussia Dortmund at the San siro which ended with a 1-3 victory for the German side.
In the Champions League's group F, Milan only have five points after five matches. The
topic that worries Pioli and fans concerns the usual, heavy and now taken for granted problem related to injuries.
The heavy blow of AC Milan's Malick Thiaw
It no longer even makes the news, in fact the situation related to muscle problems at Milan is nothing short of worrying. In the second half of yesterday evening, in fact, Malick Thiaw stopped, who was forced to leave the field for a, as it reads from the first report, severe myotendinous lesion of the left thigh biceps, the evolution of which will be reassessed within 7-10 days. The German central defender born in '01 left the San Siro stadium on crutches. After the injuries, always related to muscle problems, of Pierre Kalulu, Marco Pellegrino and Simon Kjaer, at the moment the Rossoneri defensive department has only Fikayo Tomori and the young defender Jan-Carlo Simic available, who has been added from Ignazio Abate's Primavera.
A defensive department in full crisis
As just mentioned, Milan's defense is in complete emergency: for Kalulu the problem, of serious severity, was related to a lesion of the left rectus femoris tendon, so much so that it required surgery. Even for the Argentine defensive central Marco Pellegrino, the injury suffered in the Napoli away game is not to be considered insignificant: a compound fracture of the left heel bone, and like for the Frenchman, the return would be estimated for February-March. The Simon Kjaer case is even more alarming, in fact the Danish central defender has been absent from Napoli-Milan on October 29th last and to date the date of return to the group is still unclear.
The scenarios
It is therefore red alert for the defense of Stefano Pioli, who was forced to play with the all-rounder Krunic in place of Thiaw last night. However, the Devil could be helped by a winter market focused entirely on the central defender, even if at the moment Milan need at least two, as a minimum. Milan will not go for free agents, it will wait for January and in the meantime it will use the young Simic with more playing time. Milan could, if necessary, also consider the hypothesis of the early return of Matteo Gabbia, now on loan to Villarreal.
The situation of Milan is worrying, at least two right reinforcements will be needed in January, in a department in full crisis and difficulty.
