AC Milan's first reinforcement in the January transfer market is an attacker coming from Serbia. We are talking about Matija Popovic who is 17 years old. His contract with Partizan Belgrade runs out this December 31. An agreement has been reached in the last few hours.
Therefore, Popovic will soon be a Milan player. It's now a matter of details, but the agreement has been reached. The versatile and talented forward will arrive in Italy after turning eighteen - from January 8 onwards - to undergo the usual medical examinations and sign the contract.
The agreement reached with the player will last until June 30, 2028: the 2006-born player will sign for four and a half years. The Rossoneri see great growth potential in him and will immediately have him training with the first team.
During the Under-17 European Championship played last May, his Serbia beat Italy 2-1 and drew 1-1 against Spain. All three assists were credited to Popovic, with one of them resulting from a heel dribble.
Notably, Real Madrid, Juventus, and Barcelona (along with other Italian and international clubs) were interested in the Partizan talent. Barcelona had even attempted a sudden move by sending emissaries to Belgrade to finalize the deal, but to no avail. And so, Popovic will soon be a Rossoneri player, thanks to the excellent work of the trio Furlani, Moncada, and D'Ottavio.
