Former AC Milan player Marco Amelia gave a lengthy interview to FantaMaster in which he talked about Milan's current situation, both on the field and also regarding Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Here are Amelia's words:
On what Milan is lacking:
"Milan is missing some results that were definitely within their reach but haven't been achieved. However, I believe that the squad underwent many changes in the summer, and it's normal to encounter these situations. Today, Pioli's team's goal is to establish a true identity with all the new players to be a protagonist in the league, and they have all the possibilities to succeed."
Could Zlatan Ibrahimovic be a turning point for the Rossoneri squad?
"Ibra's return is always a turning point because he adds value to every environment he's in. His presence is undoubtedly a great support. We saw it when he arrived as a player for the first time and when he came back. I experienced his first stint at Milan firsthand and saw how much he can influence the environment. I strongly believe he'll do the same today in his role as an executive."
On who impressed him the most:
"I knew Loftus-Cheek and expected him to do great things, but in my opinion, among the newcomers, Pulisic has been an added value to this team. He has been very important and decisive in most games, confirming his talent."
Amelia on Mike Maignan:
"His attitude in transmitting security and confidence to his teammates and the environment, as well as always being ready. When you play for Milan, you often risk facing one or two chances per game, and it's not easy to always be prepared in those moments."
If there's a goalkeeper he sees himself in:
"I never really thought about it because I grew up admiring a goalkeeper like Peruzzi, and people often told me I resembled him, but I never imagined who could resemble me. However, I can say that I believe a lot in Carnesecchi; in my opinion, he's one of those goalkeepers who could become among the best."
Whether it's better to exit or remain in the Champions League, Amelia said:
"In my opinion, it's always better to remain in European competitions because at the beginning of the season, you start knowing you'll have to fight on multiple fronts. In my view, for a group of players playing every three days, exiting from cup competitions and playing once a week isn't the same. It's usually thought that this helps, but important players are used to playing every three days. Playing in cup competitions always helps, even to face the league."
